| Study Reveals Widespread Meeting Multi-tasking |
| |
A survey done by Russell Research, indicates that 90
percent of audio conferencers multi-task by doing
things other than paying full attention to meeting
content. The survey also uncovered that the most
frequent distractions during audio conferences
include doing other work projects (70% frequency),
looking for materials being discussed in the meeting
(69%) and reading or sending e-mail and instant
messages (50%).
The survey shows that an incredibly large number of
business professionals need help staying focused on
the discussion at hand. More importantly, meeting
facilitators and presenters are going to great lengths
to prepare and host remote meetings and events,
but the vast majority of their content is simply not
getting through to the audience.
The most frequent distractions reported by audio
conferencers include:
- Doing unrelated work (70%)
- Looking for the materials being discussed in the
meeting (69%)
- Reading and/or sending e-mail or instant
messages (50%)
- Eating (37%)
- Muting call and talking to someone else (36%)
- Surfing the Internet (27%)
A surprising 69% of audio conferencers say they are
distracted because they're searching for the
materials being discussed.
Additional findings point to unproductive and often
unnecessary time spent traveling to and from
meetings. The survey found that 88% of respondents
feel that preparing for and traveling to meetings
often takes more time and effort than the meetings
are worth.
